"COMPETENCE MAPPING" To identify the most appropriate skills for developing innovation projects within business it is essential to have access to up-to-date information on the availability of know-how deriving from research. With this aim in mind AREA Science Park created the first "Catalogue of innovations and know-how" in 1998. This is a collection of detailed information on competences and technology accessible through the universities and research centres of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. AREA is currently setting up an online version of the Catalogue, which can be directly modified by the researchers involved and which contains a large amount of data on projects, technical know-how and equipment available at the region’s universities and research centres. The information contained in the Catalogue is available to businesses through the operators working on AREA's technology transfer scheme who are involved in the development of initiatives to support competitiveness in the region.
